Sylvie Roke was awarded an ERC startup grant within the seventh framework programme for her proposal 'Molecular Interfacial structure and dynamics of Nanoscopic droplets in Emulsions (MINE)'


Oct 2008

Hilton de Aguiar has won a young researcher's prize at the AVS conference in Boston.

The German Research Foundation DFG awarded us with a Research Grant (‘Einzelförderung’) for a 3 year Post-Doc position on 'The theoretical description of nonlinear optical scattering processes from single particles and collections of particles'.

Matthew Strader has obtained an Alexander von Humboldt stipend.

The German physical society has awarded the Hertha-Sponer preis 2008 to Sylvie Roke


May 2007

Magnus Johnson has received the Morris Cohen Award 2007. This is an international award from the American Electrochemical Society for the best Ph.D. thesis in the field of Corrosion Science.


Apr 2007

Magnus Johnson has received the Ingvar Carlsson Award 2007. This is an award from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research for postdocs returning to Sweden.

The (Dutch) glossy magazine BLVD has published again a list of 100 promising women for the year 2007 . The list contains 6 scientists. Sylvie Roke is one of them. BLVD wrote: "Roke is de onbetwiste leider van het onderzoek, zo kwalificeerde de jury van de Minerva Prijs 2006 haar. De jury koos haar onderzoeksartikel over oppervlakte moleculen unaniem uit 28 inzendingen. Natuurkunde zit in haar bloed. “Ik begon de exacte vakken pas leuk te vinden toen ik op mijn zestiende ontdekte dat ik er enig talent voor had.” Enig talent is een understatement voor een onderzoeker als Roke. Ze completeerde de studies natuurkunde en scheikunde tegelijkertijd cum laude, promoveerde vervolgens ook met de hoogste honours en kreeg subsidie om in het Duitse Stuttgart een independent junior research team op te starten. Daar onderzoekt ze de structuur van melkzuurdeeltjes, die weer gebruikt kunnen worden als medicijn tegen leverkanker." BLVD

Minerva prize 2006 awarded to Sylvie Roke. The Award was handed out by M.I. Hamer, member of the Dutch parliament.

Sylvie Roke has won the Minerva Prize 2006. The Minerva Prize is awarded every two year for the best scientific publication by a Dutch female writer on a physics topic. This was announced by the Dutch Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter, FOM. The winning publication was chosen unanimously out of 28 submissions. Albert Sugiharto has been awarded a place at the international Max Planck Research School. The International Max Planck Research School for Advanced Materials (IMPRS-AM, www.imprs_am.mpg.de) has been established in 2001 as an international graduate school with a PhD training program in Advanced Materials. The school is a co-operation of the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research (MPI-MF), the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI-FKF), and the University of Stuttgart(Chemistry and Physics faculties)
