Server ftp.mf.mpg.de implements the following services:
Persons in remote locations can provide files for institute
members on the server (in-service).
Institute members can make their files accessible to other local
staff and/or to externals (out-service).
Rules of operation:
External users must copy a file for a member of our institute into
the server's /in-directory. After the copy operation, this file is
inaccessible to the sender. Please inform the person who is meant to
retrieve the file about the actual filename - for security reasons
the contents of the /in-directory will not be listed.
Members of our institute must place the file they want to
distribute into the server's /out- or /out42-directory. After the copy
operation, this file is inaccessible to the sender. Please inform the
(external) person who is meant to retrieve the file about the actual
filename and chosen directory - for security reasons the contents of
the /out - and /out42-directory will not be listed.
You can also make your file available as URL, so that the recipient is able
to download your file by mouse click. If you upload the files prog.zip and
prog.pdf to the /out directory these files can be referenced by the URLs
ftp://ftp.mf.mpg.de/out/prog.zip and ftp://ftp.mf.mpg.de/out/prog.pdf.
All files in /in and /out that are older than 7 days will be
automatically removed from the server. Files in /out42 will be deleted
after 42 days.
We only permit anonymous ftp-sessions: The only valid usernames
accepted for opening up a connection to the server are either 'ftp'
or 'anonymous'. Type your email-address as password.
Ftp-sessions are restricted to 10 at a time.
The total disk-space provided is 5 Gigabyte.
Files on the server ftp.mf.mpg.de will not be backed up.
We keep logs of all ftp-sessions and transactions.
