Starting point for future researchers and engineers
Several directors of the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research also hold chairs at the University of Stuttgart, and a number of our scientists are also involved in teaching. This fact leads to a fruitful cooperation of the two institutions. The successful and traditionally close cooperation of the two institutes, that started in the 1930s, as well as the Max Planck Institute's affinity to the former program of study "physical metallurgy", nowadays "materials science", offers an ideal starting point for future materials researchers.
Students will find unique conditions here when entering the field of materials research. The Institute guarantees a scientific environment, superb technical equipment and, moreover, challenging research fields which directly lead to the crucial questions of materials science. This synergy ensures that, also in the future, there will be plenty of highly qualified materials specialists working in industry. Thus, knowledge and research results of the Institute directly contribute to practical application.
The "Materials Science Colloquia" and similar events additionally constitute an important point of contact , at which experienced researchers and specialists discuss problems from their individual research topics.
